Epistream has provided services for a number of studies.
The scope of this work has been quite varied and involved: questionnaire
design and survey methodology, analysis of longitudinal data, and
case-control study design. Epistream also provides statistical guidance
on analytic issues such as sample size calculations, and regression
analysis.
Project
Examples:
1. The Newfoundland Fluorspar
miners study
Epistream worked with Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian
Nuclear Safety Commission to investigate the effects of
low level radon exposure on the risk of lung cancer in a cohort of
individuals who mined fluorspar in the St. Lawrence area of Newfoundland.
Epistream designed and administered smoking surveys to surviving miners.
Statistical analyses were done to examine the effects of radon exposure
on cancer risk and cardiovascular disease. The study findings were
presented to the community of St. Lawrence in August, 2005. A copy of the final report is available in PDF format.

2. Ontario and Quebec Breast Implant Study
Epistream provided
expertise to Health Canada when they conducted a cohort study to
determine whether women who received bi-lateral breast augmentation
between 1979 and 1984 had increased rates of cancer incidence and
mortality. The cohort data were linked to the Canadian Mortality and
Cancer incidence databases maintained by Statistics Canada Epistream is
assisting Health Canada in the statistical analyses of these data. A number of manuscripts that summarize
the findings of this work have been published.
